Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" (or simply "Sweet Dreams") is a song written and performed by the British pop music duo Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart). It was released as a single in early 1983, the title track of their album Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), one of their biggest hits, and the song which provided the group with their breakthrough into commercial success. Its striking music video helped to propel the song to #2 on the UK singles chart and to their only #1 ranking on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, on 3 September 1983, after The Police's "Every Breath You Take" had held it off at #2 for four consecutive weeks in August. It was the fourth and final single released from the Sweet Dreams album in the UK and the first ever single to be released by Eurythmics in the United States.

Shutter Shades

Shutter Shades

First available in the 1980s, nicknamed "Venetian Blinders," a then-popular design of louvered eyewear were featured in the music videos for "Glittering Prize" by Simple Minds in 1982 and "Obsession" by Animotion in 1984. They were also popularized by the late pro wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage, which he wore before many of his matches, as well as in his promos. Alain Mikli made a contemporary custom design for Kanye West, again influenced by the fashion of the 1980s. West popularized the glasses in the music video for "Stronger."

Apocalyptic Rider

Apocalyptic Rider 1980

Apocalyptic Rider is a painting created by Nabil Kanso in 1980. It is oil on canvas measuring 7 X 9 feet (2 X 2.65 meters),[1] and is part of a series depicting horsemen in compositions dealing with apocalyptic themes.

The painting depicts a scene in which a horseman appears riding forward between two horizontally juxtaposed horses. The "Rider," symbolically representing horseman of the Apocalypse, is shown moving toward a figure falling near a mother holding a child.

The composition of the picture is focused on the image formed by the rider and horses in the central plane. Its area, which occupies much of the pictorial space, appears to links the background and foreground, and to reinforce the tense atmosphere generated by the subject matter and the rendering of dense layers of paint applied with broad brush-strokes across the entire surface.

The tone reflects a contrast of blue black against red. Some art critics interpreted the work as a metaphor for the wars in Central America and the Middle East. Others suggest that the compositional conception of the figures, colours, symbols and textures give a sense of imminent threat underlining the depicted theme.

Logos that I like

Logos that I like

these are the logos that I like because they show the meaning very clearly and very thoughtfully.

this logo show us the water drop by mixing it with the "W".
and if we have seen it without the words below we stile can understand the meaning behind the logo.

for this logo the representation of the coffee word by using the steam that are coming from the coffee cup is very nice.

this logo has a very nice way of showing the family using the "l" and the "i"

"Diamond Book-store" combining the diamond shape with the book is very clever.

Logos That I dislike

 Logos That I dislike

these are some of the logos that I really dislike/hate because they do not represent their meaning clearly

the first one is about women cloths, however, it is very offensive because of the use of the cats image.
Also, if you saw this logo for the first time you would think  that this is for cats not women.

for the second, since there are no spaces between the words people might read this as "kid sex change"
other than "kids exchange" which is actually a kids exchange school program.

for the last, I simply don't understand the meaning for this logo

William Gibson (Neuromancer)

William Gibson (Neuromancer) 1984

William Gibson's 1984 novel Neuromancer envisions cyberspace as
a vast ethereal grid. Gibson's data cowboy leaves behind the "meat"
of his body and drifts off into a "transparent 3D chessboard extending to infinity."
The image of this grid is projected on an internal surface of the mind, bound by no screen or window

Typography 1

Typography (1980's)

In the mid-1980's personal computers and low-resolution printers put the tools of typography in
the hands of a broader public. In 1985 Zuzana Licko began designing typefaces that exploited the
rough grain of early desktop systems.

Zuzana and her husband, Rudy Vanderlans, cofounders of Emigre Fonts and Emigre magazine, called themselves the "new primitives," pioneers of a technological dawn.

Cabbage Patch Kids

Cabbage Patch Kids 1980's

Cabbage Patch Kids is a line of dolls created by American art student Xavier Roberts in 1978. It was originally called "Little People". The original dolls were all cloth and sold at local craft shows, then later at Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia. The doll brand went on to become one of the most popular toyfads of the 1980s and one of the longest-running doll franchises in America.

The dolls attracted the attention of toy manufacturer Coleco, who began mass-production in 1982.[7] The Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids had large, round vinyl heads, (originally of a different, hard plastic), and soft fabric bodies, and were produced from 1982 to 1989, many at a factory in Amsterdam, New York. After Coleco went bankrupt, the Cabbage Patch Kids were later mass produced by other companies, including Hasbro, Mattel, Toys R Us, and currently Play Along. Mattel started producing them after canceling production of My Child dolls.

these are some picture of the dolls:
